Abusive And Hazardous Drinking Leads To Depression And Mental Health Issues, An Enabling Wife, And Inspiration For Affirmative Change
It took more than a few years but Sarah eventually determined that she had it with her husband's hazardous and careless drinking. She was sick and tired of seeing Keith come home late at night from drinking instead of spending quality time with her and the kids. She was also weary from the third DUI Keith recently received. Furthermore she was tired of making reasons for her spouse when he couldn't show up for work on time due to his abusive and careless drinking.
In a similar manner, she was nervous about the fact that their relationship was deteriorating due to Keith's negative drinking. And lastly she was sick and tired of the shaky financial quandary into which he had placed his family because of his abusive and hazardous drinking behavior.
One Sunday afternoon when Sarah was reflecting on what she could do about her husband's unhealthy and abusive drinking, she got to the point that she honestly had to do something constructive to cut into the negative cycle of Keith's abusive and careless drinking behavior. So Sarah looked online under "alcohol treatment" and located more than a few rehab clinics that were all located less than 40 miles away from where her husband and she lived.
When Sarah called each treatment center she identified who she was and articulated that Keith, her husband, was manifesting abusive and hazardous drinking behavior. She also articulated that her husband had a comprehensive health insurance at work and that residential or outpatient alcohol addiction rehabilitation would be covered if a doctor in the company health network recommended the rehab.
After listening to Sarah discuss her husband's excessive and careless drinking, the physician in an accommodating but resolute manner told Sarah how she may have contributed to her husband's unhealthy drinking through the months and the years. How? Primarily by making excuses for him instead of allowing him to suffer the consequences of his abusive and hazardous drinking behavior.
Stated more precisely, the healthcare practitioner stated to Sarah that she may have been accidentally enabling Keith's abusive and excessive drinking behavior. The physician also highlighted the point that Sarah would not be able to control her husband's behavior. With the guidance and support of the treatment team at the rehabilitation center, conversely, she would not only be able to learn how to stop contributing to Keith's careless drinking but she could also learn how to help him schedule an appointment at the rehab facility so that he could talk about his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior with a physician.
The good news was that after Sarah revealed this to Keith and he saw that she meant business, he told her that he had been quite disturbed by his excessive and unhealthy drinking behavior and that he was very comforted to discover that Sarah wanted to do something productive about his excessive and hazardous drinking behavior. Consequently, he made an appointment to see a therapist at the local alcohol rehabilitation facility.
While simply calling a treatment program does not mean that a person's careless and abusive drinking behavior will stop or that an individual will automatically be more receptive to learning about alcohol abuse facts, calling for an appointment is evidently a required feature in the rehabilitation process. And because Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting rehabilitation for his abusive and excessive drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the likelihood of a successful recovery was greatly enhanced.
