A Teenager Decides To Schedule An Appointment With His Physician About His Alcohol Addiction Symptoms

Mitchell is a sixteen-year-old youth who has finally decided to go and see his doctor about his drinking behavior. At first, Mitchell thought he would be able to essentially go on the Internet, look for some essential alcohol info and decide whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.

Not surprisingly, he located numerous websites and blogs that listed some of the typical alcohol consumption problems. That's the positive news. The less than encouraging news, sadly, was that Mitchell displayed more than a few of these issues.

For instance, Mitchell has been drinking much more than usual and he has begun to have more impassioned squabbles with the young lady he has been dating. Moreover, for the first time in his life he has been experiencing sleeping problems. If this wasn't enough, Mitchell regularly has felt depressed and on a growing basis he has been displaying limited concentration at school.

So Mitchell finally made up his mind that he needed to call his doctor and make an appointment. When Mitchell got to the family doctor's office, he overtly told the family doctor about the apprehension he feels about his excessive drinking behavior.

The doctor told Mitchell that it was smart of him to deal with his drinking difficulties, he gave Mitchell a complete physical exam, and recommended that he talk to his Mom and Dad about enrolling in an out-patient alcohol treatment program that was supervised by Doctor Devor, one of his doctor colleagues who is an alcohol and drug abuse specialist.

Moreover, when Mitchell articulated that he has been feeling a sense of despair to an increasing extent, the doctor told Mitchell that depression and alcoholism routinely arise in the same individual. Accordingly, the physician also recommended that Mitchell talk to his parents about seeking counseling in order to deal with his sense of despair. In fact, Mitchell would be able to go to the local counseling center and make an appointment with Doctor Galloway, a celebrated psychologist who specializes in treating youth.

The doctor made it a point to notify Mitchell that he might not necessarily be dependent on alcohol, but that he was obviously drinking in a hazardous manner. Stated another way, Mitchell was engaging in teen alcohol abuse.

The doctor then told Mitchell that the reason he recommended alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to deal with his drinking problems, make sure that he stopped them from getting worse, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to entirely quit drinking. In short, by successfully treating his alcohol drinking problems, Mitchell would finally be able to get his abusive drinking under control and refrain from the negative series of events that could potentially result in alcoholism.

Mitchell clearly did not look forward to facing his parents about his drinking problems and his depression. And he unquestionably did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol rehab program. And last but not least, he was not ecstatic about going to a psychologist about his depression. In spite of these apprehensions, then again, Mitchell in point of fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in many months because in the end he stopped making excuses for himself and decided to do something positive about his careless and excessive drinking.
